Principal Simon
I am truly honored and excited to serve as the Principal of Muirlands Middle School. It is a privilege to join a school known for its strong academic focus, inclusive community, and deep commitment to student success.
With over 15 years in education, I’ve had the opportunity to teach middle school math (grades 6–8) and English Language Development (ELD). My administrative experience includes serving as a high school administrator and, most recently, as Associate Principal at Dana Middle School in Point Loma. Over the years, I’ve led efforts in building master schedules, coordinating special education services, guiding schoolwide supervision and discipline plans, developing professional learning for staff, and creating community partnerships that bring enrichment and tutoring opportunities to students.
My leadership style is hands-on and grounded in building strong relationships. I believe that school leadership must be visible, approachable, and actively engaged—in classrooms, hallways, and school events. Open communication with families, staff, and students is essential to supporting a thriving school community.
I’m especially impressed by Muirlands’ commitment to inclusivity and student engagement. Our students have access to a wide range of opportunities, including intramural and after-school sports, clubs during lunch and after school, and the chance to start their own clubs based on shared interests. As a No Place for Hate certified campus, we foster an environment where students feel seen, heard, and supported. Our programs are designed to promote empathy, respect, and meaningful dialogue between students and staff.
As our students prepare for a future shaped by rapid technological advancements—especially in areas like artificial intelligence—it’s more important than ever to cultivate the skills they’ll need to thrive. According to the World Economic Forum, top skills for the future include analytical thinking, innovation, complex problem-solving, leadership, and social influence. At Muirlands, we are committed to creating a learning environment where students develop these essential competencies through collaboration, critical thinking, and authentic learning experiences.
I look forward to working in partnership with our dedicated staff, engaged families, and outstanding students to make this school year one of growth, connection, and success. Together, we will continue to build on the strengths of Muirlands and ensure every student feels empowered and supported.
Warmly,
Brendan Simon
